Nick's Search For His Family

On a typical morning on Mars at around 8:30, Stacey Baitmore sat at Nick's breakfast table waiting for Nick to put breakfast on the table. Shortly after Nick put a bowl of cereal on the table in front of her, his hand knocked over Stacey's glass of milk and after two nights of not sleeping, Nick lost his cool and his restraint on his temper.

Nick hears the glass bounce on the floor before rolling to a stop at his left foot and snaps saying: GREAT! JUST PERFECT! JUST WHAT I WANTED TO DO T'DAY! SPEND HALF AN HOUR MOPPING UP MILK! JUST PEACHY KID! HOW MANY MORE DAYS UNTIL YOUR PARENTS COME COLLECT YOU? UGH TERRIFIC.......

Stacey: Not MY flippin fault YOU knocked over the glass of milk with YOUR hand! If you hadn't set it so close to the edge of the table, IT WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN KNOCKED OVER! I've lost my appetite for breakfast. Thank GOD mom's coming this afternoon, I'll eat a late breakfast at home that way I won't BREAK A BOWL AND GET YELLED AT! (Shoves her chair back, slides off her chair and stomps off to her room that was between Nick's office and his bedroom and slams the door shut)

Nick winces as the door to his guest room slammed shut and looks at the still full cereal bowl and the mess spilling from the edge of the table onto the floor and thinks: What the hell was that all about Nick? Just because you've been up all day and night for two nights doesn't exactly give you permission to yell at a visitor. She IS right, it IS your fault for setting the glass so close to the edge of the table and knocking it over. (Hears the guest room door bang open and sees Stacey pulling her carry on behind her with her back pack on her back and says) Stacey where're you goin?

Stacey: HOME! I'm sick of living with you! You're never home and when you are home you're holed up in that pig pen you call an office. I'm all for looking for your family but not at the expense of a guest! (Hears a hard knock at the door and says) That's my dad, I'm outies! (Opens the door and hands off her suit case to her dad and steps out saying) I'm ready to go when you are.

Nick comes to the door and is greeted by an angry Jearold and says: I thought she wasn't goin home until this afternoon!

Jearold: Yeah well Stacey called and asked to go home earlier then 3:00 and after getting an earful from her about how you treat her, her mother and I agreed she could paint her own bedroom and go furniture, drapery and bedding shopping to pick what she wants in her room. Next time, I just might leave her with Nathan or Mitchell at least they're not glued to a computer screen looking for their wives and daughters at the expense of their guest! Next time DON'T OFFER TO LOOK AFTER STACEY UNLESS YOU CAN PULL YOURSELF AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN AND LOOK AFTER HER! (Picks up Stacey's suitcase and heads off down the hall saying) 'Come on Stacey, mom's waiting to take you to Home Depot to pick the paint colours for your room then we'll go for lunch and go furniture shopping. It's time for new furniture, bedding, carpeting and draperies.

Nick closes the door to his quarters and heads back in to clean up the mess he'd made

Later that afternoon, Nick sat glued to his computer screen as he scoured the list of the deceased frantically searching for his wife Cassidy and his new born daughter Lauren's names hoping and praying that some how some where they were alive and well when a loud banging on his door snapped his attention from the computer to the door. Moving his wireless mouse over the start menu and clicking it open, Nick clicked on the shut computer off option then moved the mouse pointer to click on 'stand by' and waited while his computer went to stand by mode then backed his chair out, stood up and headed out of his office, closed the door behind him and answers the door to find his older cousin, brother and Stoker on the other side.

Nathan turns and says: Hey didn't think you were home.....still looking for 'em aren't you? (Heads in to Nick's quarters followed by their cousin and Stoker saying) Could it be that Lauren was sent to earth with a bunch of other kids to live with human parents under different name and no clues to their past?

Stoker follows Mitchell inside and says: Didn't that happen to your daughter Mitch?

Mitchell heaves a sigh and sits down saying: Yeah that's what they did to Meimi, ripped her from Michelle's arms, stuffed her on a ship packed to the brim with kids and painted windows and sent to an orphanage where they were told their parents were killed and they were orphans with no families left to care for them. It literally took me two months to find the orphanage where they dumped her. So Mickey and I posed as Martian Couples wanting to adopt a human child, walked in and snapped up Meimi, Koala Bear and all and walked right out of the orphanage again. Of course cops were called by the head of the Orphanage, but there was nothing they could do, all the kids had parents who were searching for them and the orphanage was shut down and all kids brought back here and parents notified and families patched up again. You didn't by chance wash that glass she drank out of did you?

Nick: No, I haven't even gotten around to turning on the dishwasher yet. Why?

Mitchell: Go get me the glass just don't touch the rim! Then swab the inside of your cheek...........

Nick: Done that already, I'm waiting for results to come back.

Mitchell looks around saying: Where is the kid anyways? I haven't seen her all day!

Nathan heaves a sigh and says: Her dad came and took her home earlier then anticipated. Turns out Stacey called and complained that I wasn't exactly being a 'good and hospitable host' to her and her dad showed up right after breakfast and took her home saying it was a good thing he didn't entrust Stacey to me for a month if that was how I was going to treat her. I lost my temper at her this morning when she knocked over a glass of milk. It was petty, just a glass of milk and all I had to do was get up, get the cloth and wipe it up and refresh her glass of milk without incident..

Nathan: You were up two nights in a row all day and night long searching for Lauren and Cassidy and your tiredness interfered with rational thinking and you snapped and made a huge fuss over it didn't you?

Nick: Yeah that's what happened.

Meanwhile in the living room, the door bell to Nathan's private quarters rang startling the two of them out of their long deep thoughts of how thankful they were that they knew where each and every one of their children and their wives were unlike Nick who had no idea where his wife and daughter were taken to when they were ripped from his arms four years ago..

Stoker hears the door bell, gets up out of the chair he was sitting in and answers Nathan's door saying: Hi Curtis, what's up?

Curtis: Oh hi coach, these just came from Earth via courier for Nathan and Nick since they weren't where they normally are I figured I'd try here and drop these off for them. (Hands two envelopes addressed to Nathan and Nathan to Stoker and says) Now I've gotta go, I've more to deliver other people.

Stoker takes the envelope and watches as 14 year old Curtis continued on his way to deliver other envelopes to other people, stepped back inside and shut the door callin out: Nathan, Nick, you've both got mail! (reads the label and thinks) DNA Labs of Chicago? Oooh Nathan and Nick what've you two gotten yourselves tangled into on Earth?

Nick comes out of the spare bedroom followed by Nathan and says: Huh? Oh just set it in the mail holder on the wall and I'll tend to it later on. Who's it from?

Stoker: Some D.N.A. Lab on Earth in Chicago..

Nick swallows then says: I'll read it later when all's quieter then it is now. (Thinks to himself) My wife and daughter were torn from me five years ago, I swore that day to find Cassidy and Lauren and bring them home again........what've they done with my wife and daughter? Could this girl be my baby after all these years? What about Cassidy? Where'd they stash her?

Nathan takes the envelope from Stoker's hand thinking: Oh no! Please don't let this be what I think it is! Especially after all the many false alarms I've been put through! Dear god please DON'T let this say Sora's dead!

Nick notices the colour had drained from Nathan's face and says: Nate? You alright?

Nathan shakes his head saying: They sent blood, fur and tissue samples to the same lab your envelope came from with samples from Sora, I'm praying to god she's alright and not dead. We've got a two year old that's wondering where mommy is...(Remembers his two year old then glances at the clock and says) Ahahha is it that late? Oh man it's ten to one! I gotta go pick up Reilley from Nursery School before they bring her to me! Her time at Nursery School is done for the morning! I completley forgot that last call is at twelve thirty! I gotta go! I'll call you later maybe drop by with Reilley! (Opens Nathan's door and heads out shutting it behind him and heads off towards the elevator system taking a right to where the Nursery School was located to find Reilley outside on a chair waiting for him and says) Hiya sweetheart! Waiting for me again huh?

Reilley bounces off the chair, runs to Nathan who scooped her up and bursts into tears

Nathan scoops up Reilley and says: Hey hey hey hey! No tears! Daddy always comes to pick you up no matter how many minutes he's late! What say we go home and make s'mores for lunch huh?

Reilley sniffles and says: T'ay

Nathan sets Reilley down on her feet, takes her hand, starts walking towards his quarters and says: That's my girl! Then after lunch, we brush our teeth, have our nap time story then it's off to dreamland until it's time for the afternoon portion of Nursery School!

Reilley: YAY!

Nathan: Now see? Nursery School isn't so bad now is it? Make any new friends in Nursery School yet?

Reilley: Twelve

Nathan: Twelve huh? Any boys in the mix?

Reilley: Yeah six

Nathan: Six huh? So the other five are little girls then?

Reilley: Yeah

Nathan: Soo who're your friends? Other then Meimi.

Reilley: Coaldust, Jetstream, Starshine, Jumpstart, Gretchen, Meimi

Nathan: All Girls?

Reilley: Yep

Nathan: Who're the boys then?

Reilley: Toby, Blaze, Trevor, Shadow, Hunter and Braden

Nathan: You gonna have a play date soon if you make more friends this afternoon? Maybe tomorrow if daddy's not busy?

Reilley: Yeah

Nathan: Alright then, I guess I have to clear my social and work schedules for a batch of Nursery Schooler's.....(Thinks to himself) Aiyiyi this is where Sora's expertise comes in handy! I know next to nothing about what to make for play dates! Oh Sora where the hell are you?(Snaps himself out of his thoughts and punches in his code to unlock the door to his quarters and says to Reilley) Go on in and wash up while I make your lunch. So other then s'mores, do you want tuna, muddy monkey, muddy fish or pb&j? Would you like a yogurt with that?

Reilley: Peanut butter and a chewwy yogurt.

Nathan: Alright then while you eat, I'll whip up some invitations to a play date.

Reilley bounces off to the washroom to do her duty and wash her hands then comes out and peeks into an empty kitchen saying: Hewwo? Where you go?

Nathan: I'm in my office Reilley so is your lunch

Reilley walks into her dad's office and climbs up on a chair saying: All Cean! (Lays her napkin on her lap and pulls the fold out tray towards her and begins to eat her already opened yogurt.)

Nathan smiles and says: Good! Now then you tell ME what animal you want your play date invites to be in the shape of.

Reilley: PANDA! (Bites into her sandwich)

Nathan: Alright a Panda it is (Double clicks on the panda invitations and says) This what you want? (Zooms out to show Reilley the invitation)

Reilley swallows her sandwich and says: Yeah! Wif bubbly stuff behind the words

Nathan: With a bubbly background huh? Story book text too?

Reilley: Yeah! Pwetty purple (polishes off her sandwich, yogurt and juice and shoves the tray away from her trying not to fall asleep in Nathan's oversized chair but looses the battle and dozes off)

Nathan takes the last play date invite off his printer and notices Reilley had fallen asleep, sets aside the invites, leans down and scoops Reilley up out of his oversized chair and carries her to her room muttering: Ahh the wonders of a full belly huh Reilley? (Enters Reilley's Panda Bear themed Room and lays her down on her bed taking her shoes off her feet and her sweater off then eases her back against her panda pillow tucking her blankets up around her throat while snuggling her stuffed panda under her arm and left the room leaving the door open when he heard a banging on the door) Who the hell is banging on the door? Just a bit louder and you'll wake my little girl up! (Heads to the door and opens it and looses his train of thought when he finds Sora on the other side and says in a hushed voice) SORA?!

Sora turns around and says: Oh thank god! I've been half over Mars looking for you and Reilley wondering if they slaughtered her!

Nathan steps aside allowing his wife to enter saying: No, she's fine. I've bee worried sick about you! No radio contact in over six months freaked me out! (Shuts the door then turns and gathers his wife into his arms saying) I'm grateful you're alright! Now I can answer Reilley when she asks if you're coming home!

Sora nestles into Nathan's warm arms, lays her head on his chest and looks around saying: Where IS our tiny terror anyways?

Nathan: Napping with a full tummy.

Sora notices a play date invite on Nathan's computer screen and says: A Play date? For who?

Nathan: Reilley and her eleven new friends from Nursery School. Mitchell already knows about the possible playdate and hasn't gotten Meimi's hopes up yet.

Sora heaves a sigh and says: You're in over your head! When was the last time you ever hosted a Play Date?

Nathan: Not since the older kids were Rielley's age. What do they eat now days?

Sora heaves a sigh saying: First what're the names of these kids? and any food allergies? Should be the first thing you find out before you plan the menu is does anyone have any food allergies and if so what are they. (Sees a blank look on Nathan's face and says) Oyi vey, riiight she didn't say who they were did she? Secondly who're their parents or were you late picking her up again? NATHAN! I told you ages ago when we enrolled Reilley into Nursery School the morning portion ends at NOON any one left in Nursery School past noon is put outside the Nursery School on a chair for their parents to pick up! No wonder Rielley was upset! Thirdly: How long do you want this Play Date to go on? From when to when? I know for sure Mitchell's little girl is allergic to Peaches, she can NOT have anything that has peaches in it!

Nathan: Yeah she told me their names other then Meimi. They're Coaldust, Jetstream, Starshine, Jumpstart, Gretchen all girls one of which belongs to Rex and Kristin, then the boys are Toby, Blaze, Trevor, Shadow, Hunter and Braden. Jetstream and Hunter belong to Taylor and Rimfire.
Jetstream and Hunter are both allergic to Plums, Grapefruit,garlic and Olives.
Coaldust is allergic to sweet potatoes, grapefruit and pomegranates,
Starshine is allergic to Pomegranates and sardines,
Jumpstart is allergic to Salmon, ginger and pomegranates
Gretchen is allergic to Peppers and Celery
Toby isn't allergic to anything
Trevor is allergic to Coconut Milk
Blaze is allergic to Kiwi's and Tangerines
Shadow is allergic to Soya Sauce and Peppers
Memi is allergic to peaches
and Braden is allergic to Black berries and Peaches.

Sora: Well that helps me out tremendously. Serve pastries and a variety of drinks. I'm sure Kristin can whip up something Panda shaped for Rielley's party if you ask her in advance. (Hears a sound only her ears picked up and says) I'm gonna go check Rielley,sounds like someone had too much for lunch and has a tummy ache. (Leaves Nathan's arms and heads down the hall to Rielley's room where she sat down on the bed and says) What's the matter Rielley?

Rielley continues scratching her arm and cries: I ITCHY!

Sora: Itchy? What the--? (Takes ahold of Rielley's arm,picks up her comb and back combs her fur to revel her flesh and says) You are NOT having a play date anytime soon nor are you returning to Nursery School! You've come down with Chicken Pox! (Calls out) NATHAN!

Nathan comes to Rielley's room and says: You call?

Sora: Yes put that play date on hold!

Nathan heads over to Rielley's bed and sees the spots saying: I knew it, I KNEW there was something off about her this morning. I figured it was just a case of the nerves on the first day of Nursery School! Well Meimi hasn't had Chicken Pox yet so we can safely invite her and maybe turn it into a Pox party.

Sora: First off talk to parents! Don't do something this stupid if they don't know what's goin on! Check Terrence's records and see whose kid has had chicken pox and whose kid hasn't had 'em THEN work from THAT,not the other way around.

Nathan: All ten of the invitee's have already been exposed, so it'd just be Meimi,Reilley and Jetstream at this pox party. Provided Taylor and Rimfire say yes to it (Checks his copy of the Nursery School Med Records and says) Hold on a minute, you can add Coaldust to that list. She hasn't had Chicken Pox yet. So there's only nine that have been exposed to Chicken Pox.

Sora: Well then explain to their parents that Rielley's having a Pox Party and they're invited to be exposed to the pox so they can get this out of the way and be immune to it.

Nathan: Well then considering I haven't really filled in the blanks on the invitations yet, I'll make them out as Pox Party Invites and put red stickers all over the Panda's face and take 'em to the Nursery School on my way back to the Med Ward for my shift. Ooh wait,I'd better not, not with Rielley being sick! I'd better call in as sick.

Sora: Yes you'd better stay home, I highly doubt Terrence would want you traping in covered with Chicken Pox Germs! He'd pitch a fit! (Says to Rielley ) As for you! Lets get you out of your clothes and into your panda jammies huh? Alright up and out of bed and lets get changed! (Helps Rielley up out of her bed and sets her on her feet and goes about helping her change from her regular clothes to her panda jammies and a few minues later says) There all done! Back into bed now and you can sleep as long as you like. Just NO SCRATCHING! I'll see if daddy has any itch-away lotion that we can rub on you. (Heads out into the living room and says) We need itch away lotion,where'd you hide it?

Nathan reaches into his left pants pocket,pulls out his key ring and finds the key to their medical cupboard hands it to Sora and says: Third shelf on the right can't miss it. Just restocked a few days ago,there should also be some oatmeal bath in there.

Sora: Did you manage to find someone to take your shift for a while?

Nathan: Yeah Nick's taken my shift and Mitchell's covering Nick's shift. Terrence thought that it'd be best if I stayed home so I don't spread Chicken Pox around the Med Ward. Mitchell will be stopping by for the invites to pass out once I get them filled out and printed off. I'd best go do that before he shows up. (Heads into his office and fills in the invites then prints them off on perferated paper punching them out when he heard his name and says) I'll be right there! Just finishing the last invitation! (Heads out into the living room and hands Mitchell a stack of eleven invitations and says to Meimi) You may as well go on into Rielley's room and spread your sleeping bag out,she's asleep right now. (Watches as Meimi headed down the hall to Rielley's room and says) Memi's presence will make Rielley feel better and not feel so alone.

Mitchell: Ehh one way to have her exposed and all the more time to finish unpacking. Two dozen more boxes and we'll finally be officially moved in. You fully unpacked?

Sora: Us? Nope not yet,still unpacking the med closet. Reilley's room is unpacked and our room is unpacked just the kitchen,living room,the med closet,our office and the older kids's rooms that need to be fully unpacked. Then we're fully moved in. I hated moving when I was a kid and I still hate moving,too many danged boxes to unpack then again when you move from a mansion to a ittybitty Guest House becuase mom's gone nuts it gets on your nerves.

Meanwhile back at Nick's place Stoker and Mitchell had both left leaving Nick to open his mail

Nick takes the envelope down from the mail holder and opens it removing the contents only to feel his heart drop muttering: Damn! Stacey's not my baby! Some days it's a wonder I don't attempt suicide again. What have they done to Cassidy and Lauren?! (Looks up and notices a pink envelope on the table,sets aside the D.N.A. Lab envelope and picks up the pink evelope muttering) Where'd this come from? It wasn't here earlier! (Opens the envelope,pulls out a note card to read the writing and nearly drops it muttering with a pounding heart) I know this handwriting anywhere! It's Cassidy's writing! Maternity Ward of Crystal Hall? Where the hell is that? (Reads the directions and thinks) That's not far from here,matter of fact I guess I just step through Cassidy's Mirror in my room and I'm at Crystal Hall...Cassidy for too long you've worried wether or not they killed me, worry no more! I'm coming to retrieve you after five years. But what of little Lauren? (Heads to his bedroom,walks directly over to his wife's mirror that had a bed sheet on it,pulls the sheet off to reveal the mirror and hestitantly puts his hand out to test the surface to find his hand went right through and steps completly through and looks around thinking) Holy Cow, this place has been here all this time?! (Reads the directions and heads up to the reception desk and inquires about hiw wife saying) I'm looking for Cassidy and the Maternity Wing..

Megan looks up and says: So you're Nick, yep Cassidy's waiting for you in the Lilac Suite, up the stairs and first and only door on the right.

Nick heads off to the right,up the stairs and finds the only Lilac door on the right and whaps on it and backs up as a Nurse Maid opens

Nurse Maid: You're just in time.....your child is making her appearance....

Nick: My...child?! (Flashes back five years and thinks) That wasn't a child, it was a decoy a stuffed Gorilla, Cassidy's pregnancy was put in suspended animation until she could get somewhere safe. (Steps inside and heads over to Cassidy's bedside and sits down saying) Five damned long years I searched for you in every cess pool and hell hole and now I finally find you!

Nurse Maid catches the new born in the recieving blanket and hands it over to Cassidy saying: Well it's a girl!

Cassidy heaves a sigh and says: Finally you make an appearance after nearly fortyeight and a half hours!

Nurse Maid gently pushes down on Cassidy's stomach to get rid of the after birth then cleans her up and straightens the blankets saying: I'll just take the little pearl and get her weighed,measured and cleaned up. (Heads off to the waiting Doctor who checked the baby over and gave a clean bill of health then a warm bath followed by a warm blanket and took her back to Cassidy saying to Nick) Well she's good to go,good lungs,everything is perfect on her. So here you go,your first child congratulations!!

Nick takes his first born daughter and says to her: I've waited long enough for you to be born and from this day forth you will be known as Lauren Serenity Anastasia.

Lauren heaves a yawn and dozes off in her comfy warm blanket content to know she now had a father.

Nick hands Lauren off to Cassidy saying: I've been worried sick about you! Those stink fish ripped you from me five years ago and came back with a bloody knife saying they killed you!

Cassidy: They said they killed YOU! They told me that the blood on the knife was yours! I cried every night at the thought of not having you! I thought I was back to being alone in the world! I have no other family but you! My parents were killed in a car accident when I was thirteen years old and both sets of grandparents died three days after the funeral. Both my parents were only children so I was on my own with no one to care wether I lived or died or went to school.
