Safe

I do not own the Biker Mice From Mars they are owned by the original creators of the series. Hannah is owned by Kindra Coates and is use by her permission. I want to add my tremendous thanks to her for allowing me to use Hannah in this scenario.

Safe

By Morning 2004

The night was something different for the bold biker mice leader. Under normal circumstance it would have been filled with the wild antics of his other two companion. But Modo and Vinnie were hanging at The Hoagie Palace testing out Chef Andy’s newest sandwich concoction.

Charley was downtown at City Hall. The Mayor being grateful for all the help they had given the city and having been entrusted with their secret, was using his legal knowledge to help Charley make sure she had soul custody of her new daughter.

So that left Throttle to do the babysitting of the newest member to their little family, Hannah Charlene Davidson. From the first time she’d tighten her shaking little arms around his neck, clinging to him for her very survival, a bond had been formed between them. She had all the fiesty spirit of her mother and the same endearing sweetness.

The first part of the evening was spent watching some of the Mickey Mouse tapes Charley had left. She perched herself on his lap and giggled happily when Throttle would ask a question she thought everyone should know about the famous mouse.

After a vigorous game of hide n’ seek and tag, they settled down for a story from one of the books Charley had also left. Again Hannah took her favorite spot on Throttle’s lap, her head resting against his chest and her two middle fingers popped securely in her mouth. She listened loving the soft gentle sound of his voice. She still couldn’t understand why her own father had never done these wonderful things with her. All she could remember was that harsh screaming voice and the pain he would inflict on her.

Suddenly she began to want her mother, "Mommy’s been gone a long time, huh, Unca Throttle?"

"Nah, not really. She had a lot to do and it musta taken longer then she thought," he said trying to calm her concerns. "How about I give her a call and see how much longer she’ll be gone?"

"Yeah, thatsa good idea," her eyes brighten.

Throttle retrieved the cell phone they’d aquired since Hannah’s arrival and dialed the mayor’s office. "Hey Throttle, I’m sorry I should have called, but we got so involved in all the legal mumbo jumbo. How’s my baby?"

"She’ll tell ya," he smiled handing the phone into Hannah’s anxious waiting hands.

"Hiya Mommy, you okay?" Charley could hear fear in her daughter’s voice.

"I’m just fine, Sweety. You been having fun with, Uncle Throttle?"

"Yes Mommy. He’s been lotsa fun. You comin’ back soon?"

"I’m sorry, Sweetie. Do you think you could be a big girl for me and wait a little longer. I promise I’ll be there soon as I can?"

"I…I… guess. But how long you gonna be?" Hannah tried really hard not to let her tears fall.

"Tell you what, why not take a little nap and before you know it I’ll be there to take you home."

"Kay, love ya Mommy."

"I love you too baby and I’ll try and get finished as soon as possible. Let me talk to Uncle Throttle." Hannah sadly handed the phone back to Throttle.

"Don’t worry, Charley, she’ll be fine."

"Thanks, Throttle, what would I do without you. Talk to you later."

He put the phone away and looked over at Hannah who was sitting with her knees pulled tightly to her chest trying hard not to let him see the tears slipping from her eyes. He thought a minute and walked over to a storage bind next to his cot. He dug around for a few moments then pulled something out hidden in the very bottom.

"Hey Princess I was wondering if you’d do me a favor? This is a friend of mine and he’s been awfully lonely lately. He needs somebody to take care of him since I haven’t been able to do a very good job of it lately."

He held out an odd-looking stuff toy with the dark blue short pants and yellow hair. He was just a bit tattered but still had many hugs left in him. The last child’s arms he had placed the toy into still had it when they found his battered little body huddled between those of his parents in the rubble of their destroyed home. Throttle miraculously found the toy and managed to keep it with him from then on.

Hannah smiled immediately calling it her mouse-bear and cradling it lovingly in her arms. "Oh thank you, Unca Throttle. I’ll take good care of him."

"Your welcome, Kiddo. Now why don’t you two hop up here and let him get some sleep. He’s not use to being up this late."

"I guess I’m kinda sleepy too. But you promise to wake me soonas mommy comes?"

She rubbed her sleepy eyes with her free hand.

"I promise." He pulled back the covers and picked her up placing her safely between them after taking her tennis shoes off, then tucking her in.

"I’m gonna be right over there in Uncle Vinnie cot if you need anything, okay?"

"Kay," she yawned and turned over hugging the new friend securely.

Throttle smiled watching her snuggle the toys until he thought she had fallen asleep.

He knew that, with no walls in the scoreboard to block off the noise, turning the TV on was out. So he resigned to lie on Vinnie’s hammock and get a little rest until Charley returned.

It was weird to actually have some quiet time and he gratefully sighed taking his specks off putting them on the floor sliding them just a little distance under the hammock. He had just about drifted off when the feeling of being watched made him turn his head and he saw Hannah standing next to him.

"What’s the matter Princess?" He asked surprised that she hadn’t slept very long.

"Mouse-bear is scared, Unca Throttle. He wansta come back wif you," she said in a frighten sniffling voice.

Throttle took him from her and acted like he was wiping away invisible tears from the toys eyes. "Wow it looks like he’s been crying and everything. Sure there’s plenty of room for him." He placed the toy gently next to him.

She shyly hesitated for a second then said, "He was really, really scared and I think he wants me with him too."

Just like Charley her eyes said more then her voice spoke. Throttle could feel his heart tighten with anger knowing that this precious child was still filled with so much fear. Rage boiled just below the surface wanting to make McCyber pay for every tear he’d put in those tortured green eyes. He control all that emotion knowing Hannah was reaching out for his comfort, "Well we can’t have him that scared can we? Maybe if you climbed up here with him, he would feel better?"

She nodded and held out her arms. He reached down and picked her up laying back and holding her so her head nestled under his chin. She snuggled around getting in just the softest most comfortably secure spot making sure her new friend shared all the warmth with her.

"How’s he feeling now, Kiddo?" He whispered into her carrot-top, mop of baby soft hair, his hand gently smoothing her head trying to remove some of the terror still locked up in her little heart.

"Bears feelin’ much happier now," she said followed by a shuttered yawn while her tiny hand moved around in the downy gold finding just the right amount to hold located on his right shoulder under his vest. The last tear gently glided down her cheek as he felt her completely relaxed and the sound of her gently purring told him she had fallen asleep.

The reasons why he was still on Earth became so much more vivid. The face of the little Martian boy clarified even brighter in his memory. The look of joy when he’d put the toy into that child’s arms and the look of death and fear when his life was so viciously taken by evil.

Now this priceless gem lay over his heart finally feeling safe enough to rest her mind and maybe dream the joy filled dreams all children were entitled to have. Even though she wasn’t his flesh and blood there was an unmistakable connection that made him silently vow to be there for her no matter what it took.

"No more worries little princess. I’m gonna keep ya safe," he whispered gently kissing the side of her cheek sealing his promise.

The End
